Attention all SMMC members
Within the club I would like to create a WHATS APP group. For members that are not familiar with the concept it is created in an APP that is free and easy to download from the APP store which is on most mobile phones.
I would (as secretary) create the Group and control what members are added to the group. The group will be known on your mobile phone as SMMC. For me to add your name to the group I would require your approval to use your name and mobile number. All messages are encrypted and no one can join the group except through me as the creator of the group.
The advantage of having this group is fast communication between members. It is not intended for long dialogues but short messages or requests e.g. “Tom will be at the lake on Tuesday morning around 10am. Reply from Jim ”Can do see you at 10am” or from Fred” need help with the rigging on my new DF65”.Fred could get replies from more than one member.
Or Rob” who will be at IOM’s on Saturday?’ The reply only needs to be a Yes or Ok something short. The number of members that see the message and reply gives an indication of the size of the fleet for that Saturday. Of From John” anyone have a spare rudder servo for a DF95?” hopefully he would get a reply and be able to race and replace the borrowed servo at a later date.
These are examples that I have given to illustrate the possibilities of having this WHATTS APP group. It is up to you the members to try it out ,possibly till the end of this year. Then if it is not getting any use or any problems occur with it then the group will be dissolved. Think about it.
Regards Jim Sec.

Attention SMMC Members On behalf of your committee a big thank you to the 10 members that turned up at the lake Saturday morning to assist with the laying of the new markers and removing the old markers from the lake. Also to David Bolton and John Wyatt another big thanks for sharing the duties in the dinghy ,dropping new markers in place and (not without difficulty)retrieving the old markers. Thanks to Colin & Lew for sourcing the new markers and accessories and to Colin Jones who brought along 3 two way radios which made it so much easier for the person in the dinghy to receive directions from the shore. And to the other members for showing interest in the goings on in the club and giving assistance where it was need. In particular I would like to thank Tony Bolding for storing our dinghy in his backyard ,cleaning it out ,and towing it to the lake each time that it is needed. And also for the time he has put in to making, repairing our markers over the years. Tony is still retaining 3 of the old markers “just in case”. Regards Jim Hand Sec. Attention Members
Just a short message to those of us that remembered Frank O’Gallagher one of the founding members of our club. Frank passed away on Tuesday last at a retirement home at Pendle Hill. Frank had a talent for designing and building IOM’s and with some other early club members produced a very good IOM. Regards Jim Hand Sec. REPAIRING

Fishy TalesTony unveils
Stealth Yacht Tony Bolding demonstrated how advanced recent boat designs had got in the IOM handicap. Surpassing many in yacht designs Tony has a new designed IOM that is the admiration of many. Whilst on the face of it it looks convention wood design in the last race it showed its ability to camouflage itself after the race. Tony is one of the most modest and polite sailors, refused to comment. How Tony managed this we can only wonder, may be he has a special projector button on his recent new delta wing RC controller design ? As if by magic after 10 mins of this demonstration the yacht appeared in the control area under everyone's noses. "The Longest Day" Producer Jim Hand The Cast: Nigel on radio, Jack, Peter, Colin, on retrieval gear, Jim on camera, Rob & Mike helpful advice. The pictures tell the story that commenced at around 3.40pm and finished at 6pm. By far the most exciting event of the afternoons sailing!! |
