DF65
650mm
This is the cheapest and a great starter yacht and will set the standards from which you can move to other classes over time. Version 6 (white) is standard buy, based on improvements on Version 5 (black).
The kit comes together with controller and stock receiver. Just add AA rechargeable batteries or ONBO.
ONBO LiFe 850 mAh Batteries
DF65 Class is run by the DF65 Association
It is important to join the DF65 Assoc, joining is free and you obtain an allocated hull and sail number you can use for interclub events but also for club racing. You can use 2-4 numbers of the 4 allocated but check with your club to avoid number clashes.
DF65 Sails
The kit standard is the A sail. This will give you out of box set up complete. As a guide set up your rigging so its easy to change the sails and mast in one easy go.
As a guide - The A sail is suitable up for medium winds in light winds it gets beaten by the larger A Plus sail which can be bought separately. The A Plus Sail can reach medium speeds and can nearly replace the A Sail with an experienced skipper who can modify the settings. Probably more likely to stress components however if you get this wrong.
For higher winds the smaller B & C Sails are essential for maximum racing performance.
Permitted Modifications to the DF65
There are clear guidelines on limits to modifications on DF65 yacht. Controller, receiver and battery (45 grams min.) are the most common changes. At regatta's you could loss races or be disqualified if you don't follow these rules below and make modifications to the DF65. We endeavour to run our club on the same standards so sailors can transition to inter club regatta's without issues. These rules on modification are detailed below:

HOBBY WAREHOUSE
The hobby warehouse website is a great resource but try different searches as not everything appears on one search. This controller permits multiple yachts, both of the transmitter and the yacht can be reviewed on the display with alarms. Importantly the controller and receiver must use the same protocol to communicate. I fin doubt ask our members. Hulls can crack over time so look for tiny cracks that can occur around keel box mostly due to heavy swell/waves. Winches can wear or burn out and rudders fail but replacements and spares don't cost much compared to other makes. Delivery In Sydney is excellent.

Flysky FS-i6 6CH 2.4GHz with iA6 Telemetry Transmitter and Receiver Mode 1
Alternative Budget Receiver : flysky-fs-ia6b (Uses AFHDS2A protocol )
Alternative Battery : Life 6.6V 850mAh Lighter, hold charge and safer.
Battery chargers
These come in all shapes and sizes but if you are using Life batteries use the balanced setting as they have multiple cells it is very important. Balanced Charging at 0.2Amps for the Life 6.6V 850mAh. comes with balance sensor.
SKY IMAX (blue) is a fully settable battery charger device.

These are just the examples, of the interchangeable electronic parts members have used and is not exhaustive but as guide to options for new members and sources.
